Poodle - Shai - Small - Adult - Male - Dog
Shai, which means 'gift' in Hebrew, was surrendered by the person he had lived with since he was a puppy 6 years ago. The reason given was 'no time'. 4 days later this lovely 17lb boy was on the shelter's list to be euthanized the following morning. His former name was Bebe. Shai is a sweet, gentle dog who came to me on Monday, August
27th. It is 4 days later and he is just beginning to get over his profound depression. His first night in foster care he snuck out the open door into the yard and I found him in the morning curled up and shivering in the rain. He let me pick him up, towel him dry, and came under the bedcovers with me until he was warm again. He needs a new family to mend his broken heart. All I know about him is that he is gentle and beautiful. He is fine with the many dogs and cats in my home. His abandoners had this information given to the shelter: he is housetrained but they had stopped walking him and he was using paper on the floor of the kitchen, he hides under the bed during thunder storms, he is friendly with adults and children, walks calmly on the leash, and was only fed whatever they were eating, never dog food. He is now enamored of canned dog food but doesn't know what to make of kibble. OCTOBER UPDATE: Several vets have now estimated his age at more like 9 or 10. Shai's initial disorientation in foster care (now over) was exaserbated by his being very close to, if not completely, deaf. He recently had an appointment with an opthomologist who confirmed our suspicion that he no longer has use of his left eye. Luckily the right one sees perfectly. Shai has learned to use the dog door and now eats kibble (but thinks cat food is splendid!) If I've been gone for a while he bounces up and down on me when I return. Here is video of him playing with one of his foster siblings: http://youtu.be/Xe-EOvhLOcs If his new home might be yours, please call his foster mom Julia at 518-249-4588. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT ANIMALKIND ABOUT THIS PET. Julia's canine fosters require a home visit, vet reference and the perfect match between two and four footed. There is also a $250 adoption fee which helps offset some of the medical, feeding, and miscellaneous costs associated with the care of her many fosters
